It obviously depends on the weather.
If you are driving, probably the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in a stretch from Highlands, NC to Boone, NC.
There is a ski area in the Banner Elk area on Sugartop Mountain that makes its own snow and I believe Beech Mountain might also. Beech Mountain has the highest altitude town east of the Mississippi. Sugartop has a 10 story highrise built on top of a 5000 foot mountain with breathtaking views and you might get a rental there, it has an indoor pool/spa/etc looking over the ski area which is really great.
You are looking at about an 800 mile drive, the last 50 to 100 of which are extremely dangerous when slick.
You could fly to Asheville and rent, saving a long drive.
